The Coal Miners Memorial Park started as an idea among friends who wanted a way to honor all coal miners, past and present, who sacrificed personal safety in order to provide a living-wage for their families. On September 17, 2011, the park was dedicated as a tribute to the many local miners’ families who have been associated with the industry going back to the turn of the last century.
The Coal Miners Memorial Park is located directly behind the Coal Miners Memorial located on Main Street, at the Missouri Pacific Railroad track. The park’s outstanding feature is a “walk” made up of inlaid bricks inscribed with the names of past and present coal miners. This walk is in honor of West Frankfort's contribution to the industry. This is a wonderful way to remember the miners and their families
Bricks for the walk may be purchased at any time at the cost of One Hundred Dollars ($100.00). If you would like to remember a loved one or purchase a brick for yourself, please contact the West Frankfort Chamber at (618) 932-2181 or e-mail: West Frankfort Chamber.
